Peter answers with an Oracle approach (since we are on an Oracle list
here) I read "freeze a unix account " and answered shellish -)
Maybe Craig says somethingCraig
You may achive this functionality throught the use of profiles.
Once you have a profile set up
ALTER PROFILE pro_name FAILED_LOGIN_ATTEMPTS 3
Hope this helps.

maybe your question is too much off-topic for Oracle experts -) or
everyone knowing the solution is on holidays -)
I am not sure because I do not use this module but most modern Linux Hi again.
Does the total lack of response to this question mean there is no way to
freeze the account after several failed logins?
We are being pressured by auditors to come up with a way to do thGood idea can be to run 'top ' on console (and disable X11 console) all the
time. Or to run 'vmstat 5 '.
This way you can see what is going on (or see what was going on just before
the freeze).
-- If you are able to ping then server is trying to recover from low memory. Keep an close eye on memory usage (vmstat top swap etc) around the time frame (of freeze).

Thank for your information.
I will try it.
I have another condition
I could do the ping to the server.
I can 't connect to the oracle.
But I can 't ssh and shutdown the server.

I ran the commands you suggested and was able to find the one processes
owner. The other one though came up with the folling
oraprd ~ # fuser 32774/tcp
here 32774
As there is no processI can test a patch I have a bug on staging servers.
How to reproduce
- install SLES9 SP3 + you updates
- instal Oracle 10.2.0.3
- set up LVM over iSCSI (may be not impoirtant I dont know)
- crefuser <port_number >/tcp is your friend.
It will show process which keeps port open (but better run first
netstat -an | grep tcp | grep LISTEN
to see if port is really open.)

We have an Oracle 10gr2 midtier instance running on SLES 9 and when we
attempt to print to any network printer we get the following error
"Executed successfully but there were some errors I have more recent versions of what you mentioned.

thanks for the tip.
I don 't think the problem is that it can 't find the library but
instead that what is on the file system is either
incompatible or the wrong version.
