To oracle-l@Have any of you run into listener problems after applying the alert68
patches?
We ran into connectivity problems for 8i (unix) - lsnrctl start fails - and
for as10g infrastructure tier (win32) -Statspack...instance activity section.

Which graphical interface to create python you have.
I am a fat lazy dba there is a one perl graphical editor to create windows

Is there sCertainly I have gotten great responses from the list that will help us in

You can create separate tablespaces for different modules and then
migrate the tables and indexes to the new ones.
To move the tables you can use 'ALTER TABLE .... MOVE TABLESPACE ... '
cwe consolidate oracle homes where possible. this is just to save on
space/upgrade time etc.
we do this knowing that if need we can easily add a new home & move a sid
to that
btw i dont think Dear Sinardy
Freelist Groups is for Oracle Parallel Server or RAC.
It reduces contention on the segment header block and reduce
inter-instance "pinging " at the cost of excessive disk space
HI
Suppose u have 300 GB database with 3 Redo log groups
having each 100 MB of redo log files.
Now u have started taking HOTBACKUP by putting a
tablespace in backup mode.
When backup isIf there are other products installed through the OUI create a copy of the
oraInst.loc file (depending on the UNIX system
possibly in /etc or /var/opt/oracle).
Modify the inventory_loc parametOn my 9.2.0.5 database running on a HP11.11 the JRE shows the following

You got a lot of great responses. I didn 't how busy you said these
DBs would be.
We had a client with 36 DBs running on an HP server with one ORACLE
home. Yes we did upgrade them all at tMany instances running on single server sharing Oracle home on many
sites.
I must admit I have slightly adapted OFA My Oracle home naming is like
/.../oracle/product/DB_09_02_00_05_00.
ThiSounds lik an old mainframer talking? Nah. I 'm an old mainframer and even
in my mainframe days when I thought IBM OS-360 was the only real computing
I never thought that way. Sounds more like Ana
Especially if you are using the OFA standard (almost unavoidable these days thank goodness!) then you won 't have any performance or contention problems having multiple database instances shariI agree with everything Tom said.
Additionally though you should consider two other points
1.) A single ORACLE_HOME for multiple databases means a single
point of failure for those databaseTo be blunt your boss is clueless. What kind of contention is he
visualizing here?
On some of our test systems running Windows (which some would say is
madness itself) we are running over a dozMy boss thinks that this could cause problems. I say it 's OK to have say
three Oracle instances (or more) sharing the binaries as long as we have
enough memory and space. He thinks we should inThis is it! Thanks! I told the NT guy to allow access so he will be working on it!
