We built an application using PL/SQL & RLS with 10g on W2K. We just
patched test database to 10.2.0.3 from 10.2.0.2 and the developers are
reporting periodic errors for a single user. ThRichard
Would your advice be any different from "use good Oracle practices ".
I haven 't worked on Peoplesoft but at one time worked for and ERP vendor.
When people were newly installing the applicathi all
a long while back I stumbled upon a pretty interesting eye catching article talking about a (fictional) cocky newbie Oracle DBA entering the industry -)
Unfortunately I did not

I fould separate your issue into 2 (i do not know - they might be related)
1. ORA-600 [kokbcvb1]
2. updates that used to take seconds now take 20 minutes or longer.
For #1 I would suggesYou only have to patch the clients if the clients will be using TSTZ
data. For most people this will probably mean that the client doesn 't
need to be patched since I think most of us only have TSTZ Hi Fred
You want to make sure that any tablespace that contains an index that is
used to support a primary or unique constraint is in the same transport
set as the tablespace containing the table. Minimum size permitted for a redo log file in Oracle 10g is 4MB.
Does anybody remember if we had similar restriction on redo log file
size in 9i and 8i? If so what was it?
Thanks

I am trying to transport 2 tablespaces (data & indexes tablespaces) from 1
database to another.
When I ran the DBMS_TTS.TRANSPORT_SET_CHECK and subsequently select from
transport_set_violations I Sorry for jumping in...I didn 't have time to read the article of JL but the
case that you mentioned Yasin shouldn 't that be indicated as
"BIND_MISMATCH " in v$sql_shared_cursor?
Thanks

You could use OpenLDAP on Linux but 'small ' problem is that Oracle OID
.ldif-Format is different from the OpenLDAP format...so you need to
'change ' it a bit - a lot of fun guaranteed -)

We are running Oracle 9.2.0.7 & 10.2.0.2 on Aix 5.2. I am seeing the
following warnings in the DB Writer trace file
Warning lio_listio returned EAGAIN
Performance degradation may be seHave you thought about raw volumes? i didn 't see any suggestions for that
so if i am repeating my apologies.
redologs on raw is really what you should have. Not sure what RAID levels
you have at yoOracle use to recommend it more strongly to always relink Oracle after
upgrading or patching a Unix OS as documented in Metalink 131321.1
however it looks like they recently reworded that note to wehmmm ..its rather difficult even with the event setting. the trace file
doesn 't explicitly show me the column name.

I am working with a RAC environment and we want to refresh dev from test and similar eventually we want to be able to do this in production to test or dev.
I had thought initially that I wouI don 't think I last long at a company if they asked me a second time
for info to "run a background check ".
First of all if they can 't keep track of it once then I figure they
lost it and someone uSure way to do this is enable standard Oracle audit for sessions.
Report would than be pretty straightforward.

But while we 're on the subject (again) let me emphasize for the 42nd
time that the "updated " utltzuv2.sql script as downloaded from Metalink
is in fact *not* You can get a positive confirmation on that by noting the "avl 00 " part.
That means the value has a zero-byte storage representation.
Which leads me to the place where I 'm reminded that NULL and tWith RMAN - you can simply backup your database and then
restore+recover. two options
- before restore/recover do set new name to rename datafiles
- move your datafiles somewhere or rename or unmounstatus active means that this online redo log is required for crash recovery.
Try "ALTER SYSTEM CHECKPOINT " you should see that status ACTIVE
should disappear.
You need to checkpoint more aggressivYou did grant resumable to scott ?

not confused yet? here 's your chance !
While trying to script Oracle patches for global rollout in our shop I
discovered today that Oracle released a bunch of new patches including a
CPU. It 'nologging issue and raw devices have nothing to do with each other.
If you are asking for raw devices - Oracle will restore datafile
directly on your raw device providing you renamed it (SET NEW NAMEGreat follow up Brandon. I think IBM should have implemented CIO along

Everything appears normal. But
