If you are asked to recommend a server (Hardware/OS) configuration for a
Oracle database server. Then what factors you willRunning a truss on the sqlplus process might provide some further insight

Solaris is not as friendly - but you can use prstat.
When I use task manager in Windows XP I can only see CPU being consumed

execution plans how you test it (in GUI tool fetching first few
rows?). ItI would be interested in this.
I have consultants who put changes in and don 't compile afterwards... I would have something solid to go back to them with and say... see?

Looks like query you have is from Siebel Analytics. If you are using DAC to refresh data from Siebel to Siebel Analytics it tends to drop and recreate indexes in order to speedup data load
This looks like a typical use of the 5% selectivity
for a predicate involving an inequality with an
unknown or in a join. See for example the
