Recently someone posted a question on what the Teradata
database was like. I didn't feel the question was fully
answered.
Here is a good article that discusses Teradata.

"Teradata appeals to an elite and moneyed clientele.
Customers say its data warehouse is peerless in its ability
to process huge amounts of information -- well beyond the
capabilities of systems from IBM or Oracle.
A standard two-server data warehouse costs $486,000
While Teradata software can run on Windows platforms, most
customers opt for the company's own Intel-based Unix servers."
