sorry for loosing track of this thread. What
I wanted to address was the comment that CRS
will fail over the listener. Since we are not
talking about RAC, there will be no CRS. And
even if CRS was de-coupled from RAC, it is
not an HA framework (monitors/probes,start,stop,
failover scripts/executables, etc) as is
software like Steeleye and PolyServe Matrix Server,
VCS, etc.
Yes, of course with a SAN you can write your own
scripts to monitor the database and manually
push filesystems over to the server and go with it, but
without a cluster-global HA policy engine, such
scripts are usually not effective. Therein lies
the market for the types of products I've mentioned
in the previous paragraph. And within those, there
are feature differentiators as well...
