These are 100% correct questions, but we better address them to Oracle:
- how long we will see ET64T/AMD64 platform as _low priority_ for Oracle? (I
do not expect that anyone in good mind will use 32 bit Linux for database in
next 2 - 3 years. Do they expect people will move onto Itanium Do not think
so!)?
- how long they are expecting to use 32 bit Java on 64 bit Linuxes (today
they use 32 bit Java on ET64T/AMD64 which creates a lot of hassle around)?
- can we expect to have AS and other 32 bit applications _at least_ be
certified on ET64T/AMD64 platform? It includes
many applications, with Grid control and other stuff.

on SLES 9 x86-64

Hallo,

first of all thanks to everybody giving me feedback.

1. What I wonder a little bit is that, for example Oracle supports 32-bit
installations on Solaris 64-bit.
2. If 32-bit installation of AS 10g 9.0.4 seems not to be supported on SLES
x86-64, there would never be a certified installation of AS 10g on any
64-bit Linux version, because the Application Server 10g always seems to be
shipped as a 32-bit version and no 64-bit version exists.
=> If using a 64-bit Linux on a server I can't use Oracle AS 10g on the same
machine.

Regards

Frank Petschar

Thanks Guys,

This problem pops up once in every two weeks as someone will install 32
bit Oracle products on 64bit OS and end-up with all sorts of mentioned
problem. This mixed combination is not supported by Oracle unless
otherwise documented. I will try to put word of caution in
iAS10g_sles9_install.pdf as this document is only intended for x86 OS
only :-)

Regards,
Arun
