Does anyone on the suse-oracle forum have any information about any
issues running Oracle 10GR2 on SLES9 SP1 for INTEL X86? We are needing
to decide on going with SLES9 SP1 or SP2 for the below issues.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------
EMC is sticking to their guns about the exact kernel version.
PowerPath will only work with the sp1 kernel (2.6.5-7.139).
If 10g is supported on kernel 2.6.5-7.139, everything should work, but
with one big caveat. We will not be able to do any updates. If I run an
online update, it will update the kernel to the latest patch, breaking
PowerPath. We don't update these boxen regularly, but when a major
security hole is found, we will want to be able to run the update.
Another possible solution:
I spoke to a Novell engineer who said that sles 9 with sp2 supports
multipath natively for the emc clarion. They have a Clarion close to
ours set up and it is working with no PowerPath. This would eliviate the
update issue.
