We have installed Clusterware and DB/RAC using an Oracle Inventory.
Then, we have renamed /etc/oraInst.loc and have installed Application Server
(Forms & Reports) using another Oracle Inventory.
All this is on the same machine.
We did this because when we were using the same inventory, we could only have
one Reports Server running on one node of the cluster. The Reports Server on
the other node was refusing to start. I don't know why, because we didn't
cluster them. Forms & Reports were supposed to be completely separate.
Now, we have the following problem:
Both Clusterware and AS have their own ONS (Oracle Notification Server) and
they both try to run it. It doesn't quite work, it's conflicting.
The questions are:
1. I'm not quite sure that having two inventories on the same machine is wise.
I presume that, with a common inventory, AS would detect ONS from Clusterware
and would not try to run its own. Am I right?
2. If we maintain the two separate inventories, how can we setup Forms &
Reports to use the ONS from Clusterware and not try to run its own? What are
the config files we need to change?
Thanks
