Well, since you brought up the subject of RMAN, let me ask this:  what version of the database will you be running?  If it's 10g, you'll definitely want to look into using incremental backups in conjunction with the block change tracking feature.  We're currently investigating this, although we've run into a known bug in 10.1.0.4.  We're in the process of upgrading to 10.1.0.5 in which this error has (allegedly) been fixed, but we can neither confirm nor deny this yet.

Does it really take 104 slides to point out that a solid state

disk is faster than 7 SATA drives? What am I missing here?

I tried to turn this thread into one of a bit more sophistication

by bringing up the fact that these things are very expensive and

you can't just sit one over in the corner and get your money's

worth because they are simple SAN arrays that serve up LUNS.
