Journaling do not make any harm for files like Oracle DB files (which do not
change size in time); and it is ery useful to recover from
system crashes for file systems with archive logs and/or backups (which
change size and create new files).
ReiserFS is pretty stable in SLES system (it was worst few years ago,
correct). Ext3 is better if you do not plan to resize it, and Reiserfs is
better if it is created over LVM and you plan to resize it online (you
cannot resize ext3 online).
