Did you think about using ASM for maximized performance? Installing RDBMS on
<whatever FS you prefer> is obvious, but performance comes out of the data
area. Oracle often suggests ASM for performance benefits. We are using ASM
based on large rawdevices for all 10g products here. I personally like it's
mirroring/redundancy features very much.
