Hi,

I can't give you a very precise answer, since I haven't found many documents
on it. Maybe it's a good question to ask on metalink.

These things I'm telling you are based on experience only:

As to load balancing, I think CMAN does load balancing on RAC managed
connections by default. Just fill in the remote_listener parameter and
configure the cman.ora configuration file.

As to failover, CMAN is aware of which RAC nodes are up, and dispatches
connections only to those nodes that are up. However, when one node fails,
there's no TAF. Maybe you can configure it server side, if you have 10gR2.
Or maybe not.

As to SPOF, I have it, a single point of failure. But you can have many
remote listeners. So you may have two nodes or more running CMAN. Providing
load balancing and failover capabilities between these two nodes using
appropriate software or hardware shouldn't be too difficult.

Best regards,
  Gil

Hi all,

Gil, thanks for your reply. I've found the chapter in the net admin guide,
but
I still don't understand how failover and load balancing with CMAN works.
And, most of all, how can I avoid a SPOF when I use a proxy?

Any tip would we very appreciated.
