ASM requires raw partitions or NAS files...unless you set
_asm_allow_only_raw_disks=FALSE in which case you can use
CFS (not for production).

Since the original post was about running RAC inside Vmware,
this must be a training/testing only environment so the
options for diskgroups files is pretty wide.
