I am not sure that a more recent libaio package would help you, as this
is probably a real kernel bug and not something that would be addressed
by the aio libraries.

From your description it sounds very similar to the problem experienced
by another 9i customer. They were running an RMAN backup and they would
get this kernel BUG and an oracle process would hang (couldn't even kill
-9 it). All they could do was shutdown the DB. The system would
otherwise stay up.

The stack trace is very similar. There is a patch that might fix this
problem, but it did not make it into the latest kernel update. If you
can, I recommend opening a SR with Novell, and if possible look into
Novell bugzilla #165140 as a possible solution.
