I probably will, or I'll try the home brew skaio oracle libs with the
older SLES kernels.

My problem is that I've got basic support only on this box. Just patches
and fixes, not the ability to open service requests. The box only has 3
users, but 24 million rows of data. And tons more each day.

If the 2.6.5-7.257.PTF-smp patched kernel that a nice (anonymous) Novell
employee suggested I try has the same patch as SP4, then it doesn't fix
the problem.

We tried the multiple db-writer-slaves thing a long time ago. It's
doesn't compare to async. I can try it for this app, but I'm not hopeful
given our past experience.

I'm going to talk to the customer tomorrow and give him choices:
1) trying down-rev kernels
2) Rebooting once a week.
3) Switching to Windows. He's a windows-only shop, so worst case
scenario is that we put Oracle on Windows and he gets to eat his own dog
food.

I just make me sad to blow the trumpet for SuSE and have it hit a sour
note. I have a hard enough time defending it against Windows (campus
license) and RH (site license) as it is.

I'll report back if I find a stable combination.

Andy
