Re: [suse-oracle] File System

Replies:

ext3 is old file system, with a lot of internal problems. ReiserFS was
always much better in a long term design.
Just compare 'creation' time, online resizing and other issues, and you will
see. Ext3 is in reality some modification of old UNix
file systems, with artifical journalling and artifical indexing added into
it.

If Novell drops support for ReiserFS (as they already did for many other
things), then ext3 became the only choice for Oracle database
in a long term (in a short term, reiserfs works pretty well and is the best
file system in SUSE9 and SLES9).

Of course, if you need to recover files, or if you want to get access from
Windows, ext3 is the only choice for the file system.

the reason being that the file system is now just in maintenance mode. It's
what I use on my current systems. It's on their OSS page which may have to
be read out of a search engine cache as Oracle replaced a technical
information page with an add for their current linux initiative.

though when the PROD boxes get in we'll probably use OCFS2 in preparation
for RAC.
