At home I have been using Suse Linux Enterprise server 9.3 for some time now
because I wanted to test some Oracle software
If you want to install a database like 10g rel 2 everything works fine
But if you want to use other software from Oracle, I am a bit disappointed
Red Hat ES and Suse are the only two certified Linux platforms ( Recently
there were some development that I do not consider) but on the 64 bit
platform there are some limitations. Recently I tried to install Oracle
Collaboration Suite but my conclusion is that it is impossible on a 64 bit
platform
Besides that, the Oracle Application Server infrastructure database runs in
a separate 32 bit shell, which make things more complicated
(e.g. linux32 bash)
The application server uses a 32 bit JDK. Some versions of the Oracle HTTP
server are 32 bit too.
In case you want to use more than just the oracle database on linux you
better stay with a 32 bit hardware platform
