Filesystems are ReiserFS
Filesystemio_options? Setall?
No mpio
Root disk is hardware RAID 1 primary partitions for OS and Oracle
binaries.
Data disk is hardware RAID 5 primary partition for Oracle data.
No fibre channel.
OS and Oracle are 32bit.
We can reproduce the bug by:
Enabling AIO in oracle,restart.
Dropping indexes on two tables.
Using SQL*Loader to append 10 to 20gig of data into two tables.
Creating indexes on the two tables.
Repeat daily for 7-10 days. Table data is deleted first in first out and
the tables together are roughly 250 gig in size.
Thus, I can rule out EXT3, MPIO, Raw disk, fibrechannel, and 64bits. You
can see my config is rather stock with no special tweaks etc. Yes, I
know this is a less than optimal hardware setup (surplus hardware). The
kernel is one provided by SuSE to test a fix for this specific AIO
problem.
After turning OFF AIO and adding io slaves, the machine has been running
perfectly for 64 days. Unfortunately, I cannot test the latest kernel as
the users would prefer to leave the machine as-is instead of having to
reboot every week.
