Hello Michael,

thank you for your encouragement for just copying around.
It worked - and I used an quite elegant way.
I set up a data guard environment with a standby db on
the new hardware. Then I used the data guard feature to
switch the role. My primary db on the older hardware became
standby db and the standby db on the new hardware primary and
so I was able to migrate with a five minutes downtime.
perfect.
I also had to bring in catpatch script because I went
from 9.2.0.7.0 to 9.2.0.8.0 as well.

Thanks and regards Mathias

Hi,

if both boxes have the same endian format it SHOULD be possible to just
copy the DB to the new
box. Just install the X86_64 Oracle version to the new box (same
Version/patches/path as the old one)
shutdown db/listener, copy DB-Files,controlfiles,archives,init<sid>.ora
and the listerner *.ora stuff to the new
box (same path, filenames, owner .... as on old box). I did not tried this,
cos not IA64 here .....
