Re: [suse-oracle] Upgrade SLES8 > 9 with oracle 9i and SSA ERP

Here we have a problem:

SLES10 is not ready for production yet! (no matter what Novell is posted,
it IS NOT READY! Numerous errors, such as broken OCFSv2 in last updates, NFS
problems in first release, poor vendors support and so on, makes it
experimental, not production, grade).
SLES9 is not supported well anymore (where is servicepack4, to integrate
thousands of chanegss since SP3? Where is support for new SATA and SAS raid
controllers /SLES9 dont work on AMD DELL servers/? Where is heartbeat2 - it
can work with SLES9 easily,. so why dont upgrade?)

I prefer, instead of seen increasying development of SLES10 and abandoning
SLES9, to see more development and support in a very stable (now, after a 3
years in the fields!) and well supported by vendors (again, now only!)
SLES9, and to see SLES10 as an experimental branch for he next 1/2 - 1
year.

I dont see any minor reasons, why data centers should use SLES10 today
(except XEN, may be). It is not backward compatible with SLES9 applciations,
it is not stable, YOU service is broken, ZEN - is not so important as they
presents it...

Novell do the same mistake they did with SLES8 - when they abandoned SLES8
support few years ago (did not migrate it onto ET64T, for example - just
again, I am not concerned what Novell is saying, I just look into the
product and can see that it is almost abandoned), RedHat continued to
support RHEL3 (migrated it onto ET64T) -= and attracted many customers, who
ned stability. Now, when Novell began to abandon SLES9, RedHat continue full
support and design on RHEL4 (keeping RHEL5 as an experimental). It's (Redhat
policy) is exactly what data centers need - support of well done, matured
main branch (SLES9 and RHEL4) and keep new branch (SLES10 and RHEL5) for
experiments and new installations.

If we can see something like this in Novell, it could be great.
