More logical RAID drives on one controller? 2007-03-05 - By Bi

Hello, This is not entirely related to the Oracle on SLES but I hope it is ok to ask. We have a data warehouse with two main fact tables. They are partitioned and have their own tablespaces. As the server was setup all database files are on one RAID logical drive. The server is IBM ML350 with ServeRAID 6M two channel RAID controller with disk array connected to it. The application is supplied by a third party. The two fact tables are usually accessed by full scan in certain partition or partition range. I was thinking about adding another 3 physical drives and create another logical drive with RAID 5. Then move the two fact tables with their tablespaces there. My question is, is it going to help me to lower the IO contention even it is on the one controller ? I truly appreciate any feedback. Thank you, Radek -- Radovan Biciste Czech Republic
