If you take this document

and replace 'Enterprise Manager' to 'Application Server', you will have a
guide _how to install 32 bits app server on x86_64 Linux_.
You do nt select between i386 and x86_64 hardware (all todays hw is 64 bit);
but you choose between running 64 bit Linux and 32 bits AS
vs running 32 bits linux and 32 bits AS. I recommend to do the first, but it
is not oficially supported by Oracle (but works pretty well).

Thank you for all the replies. I just would like to highlight that I'm
concerned about running 32-bit version of Oracle Application Server 10g
Release 2 (10.1.2.0.2) Reports Services on SLES9 x86-64 on AMD Opteron CPUs
and NOT the database and not Oracle Enterprise Manager. And the reason of
my concern is not that we couldn't get it running (I'm sure after doing
some research it will run on almost anything :) ). I worry that it
generally very inefficient to run 32-bit software on 64-bit OS/ hardware.
So maybe we're much better off simply buying some powerful Xeon based
machine(s) for AS.
Also, are you guys aware, if Oracle has any plans to release 64-bit version
(AMD) of Oracle Application Server Reports Services ?

Hi Vitaly,
i had setup two Oracle 10 systems on same hardware.
Only difference was one was 32 bit the other was 64 bit (Software and
Oracle and PRIMULAB II)
Our PRIMULAB II laborytory software was 10% -slower- on 64 bit.
So if you don't need more than 2-4 GB main memory you will waste
performance.
