I've seen Active Directory LDAP names resolution described in
literature, though we've been unable to implement it here. We have tried
and have an open support request to make it work. Not having much luck.
Clearly there is no love between Oracle and the AD world.
If I recall OpenLDAP is specifically mentioned as NOT supported.
There is discussion of this on otn.oracle.com forums. Search the OID
forums for OpenLDAP. Maybe someone has it working for names resolution.
In terms of licensing, OID is licensed to all Oracle customers for names
resolution purposes only. So, you don't need to buy OID if all you are
doing is using it for names. Yes that is documented on Oracle's site. We
have two OID machines dedicated to names resolution, very low
maintenance and living in our vmware environment.
