Data Pump and compression

Data Pump and compression

2007-10-01       - By Fedock, John (KAM.RIC)

As a FYI, you can use the network_link option using an import and this
will import data into database A thru a link connecting to database B.
No need to have the data go to disk first.  I have done this recently
and it was very nice.  Only downside is there is no "commit" option, so
I had to break up my 9GB of data into smaller ranges.

Hope this helps.

Datapump in 11g does support compression and works
quite well.

What I'm not sure about is if you must own the license
for compression to use it.

More Oracle 11g new features like this one in my forth
coming book from Oracle Press, Oracle Database 11g New
Features.

Cheers!
