I'm not an RM expert, but I did learn a lot from the live webcast session that
the RAC SIG had last week titled "Using Resource Manager for Managing Mixed
Workloads". I'm working on getting the recorded version of that posted on the
RAC SIG website (www.oracleracsig.org). Once you sign up with the SIG, you can
playback any of the recorded sessions on demand at any time. I hope to have
this session's recording posted before the end of next week along with the
presentation slides from the session too.

Fairlie, I suspect that the session was conducted by some of the people you
spoke with in SF - Sue Lee and I don't remember the name of the other technical
person that did the 2nd half of the session, but he seemed to know his stuff
pretty well.

Watch the site for the playback link to be posted in the next week if you're
interested.

Dan

Hi Tony,

I have attached a sample script in a separate email. The script creates a
plan and consumer groups.

One of the sites I am working on has had limited success with RM.
There have been a couple of times it has bailed us out but on more
than one occassion we have had sessions stuck in resmgr: cpu quantum
even when the CPU on the box is at 50% idle.

I spent a day with the RM development team in San Fran last month
identifying issues in the product. Unfortunately most of these I believe are
unpublished.

The feature in RM to throttle sessions works fine.
There are times when RM does not kick in even when load is nearing 100%
Also RM also does not function properly on machines with more than 8 cpus.

 Thanks
Fairlie

 Fairlie,

That's not encouraging. I did do some digging on Metalink and Google,
but the only bugs I was able to find related to problems with mapping
priorities. Can you give me an idea of the bugs that you found? Are they
so bad that you would not use RM in a production environment at all?
What do other people think about this?

Cheers,
Tony
